Kara used Adobe Photoshop to create one of a kind graphics and a Farm to School logo. She also researched and put together a Storing Local Foods Guide for students, food service staff, parents, and the surrounding community.
2) Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program Calendars
Along with working on implementing Farm to School during her internship, Kara worked on revising the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program calendars for the district. After doing a bit of research, she created a schedule of when to serve specific fresh fruits and vegetables throughout the year according to when they were in season. Locally grown fruits and vegetables were given first priority when possible. Other seasonal foods were then used to fill in the blanks.
3) Move to Improve Employee Wellness Program
After completing a needs assessment for the City of Winona, Kara and her group found that the City of Winona had a very low percentage of employees meeting the recommended two hours and thirty minutes of moderate intensity every week. Their findings lead to the creation of an employee wellness program focusing on physical activity.
4) Winona Area YMCA Yoga Equipment Grant
Kara worked with one other peer to put together a grant requesting money to purchase yoga equipment that would enhance the quality and number of chronic pain patients who would be able to participate in the Chronic Pain Yoga class held at the Winona Area YMCA. Without the additional equipment many participants are physically limited in how much they can participate and many local chronic pain patients do not have the option taking the class.
5) Tasty Tuesday Training Manual
